Helping Hands Can Change Lives

We are truly proud of our 12th HOB Library at Cabbo Elementary School in Peñablanca, Cagayan that was launched on May 24, 2023, because it was initiated and completed by local volunteers in the said town. Our very first locally-driven HOB Library, equipped with its own reading programs, was led by Atty. Viva Olalia-Guzman, a LINKS volunteer with a deep passion for reading. The success of this project was done in collaboration with local donors and the partners of LINKS such as the Philippine Construction Association, Boysen, Procore, Mark Guzman, LGU Peñablanca, and of course, the teachers, and parents. We believe that the helping hands in our communities can change children’s lives by offering them a place to learn, create, and belong… a beautiful and colorful library.

Bayanihan para sa Silid-Aklatan

Harnessing the spirit of bayanihan, we were able to launch our 11th HOB Library at Bacnotan Central School in Bacnotan, La Union on April 1 to 3, 2023. With reading culture as a key agenda of the local government unit according to Mayor Divine Fontanilla, Bacnotan now has two HOB Libraries to date. It was bayanihan at its best--as faculty members, parents, and the LGU all contributed to put everything together for the children of Bacnotan Central School. The volunteers were so happy to once again give their time and energy in helping the town have a beautiful physical library and an empowered Bacnotan community, for a sustainable reading program!

ALFONSO CENTRAL SCHOOL

Alfonso, Cavite

Turning Dreams into Reality

It started as a dream and a personal mission of Ms. Aida Miranda, an alumna of Alfonso Central School, Alfonso, Cavite, and we helped her turn it into a reality. On our 10th HOB Library last February 25-27, 2023 at Alfonso Central School, we felt that the whole community is ready and excited to see their new library all thanks to the efforts of Philippine Construction Association through its Estilo de Vida Project, DATEM Incorporated, LINKS (hooked on Books) program, sponsors, donors, individuals, and LGU representatives who made this dream a reality. So, is it worth it? Oh YES! The big smiles on the faces of the kids, teachers and parents are priceless. They just can't believe they have a beautiful world-class library in their very own school! Who else have huge smiles? us... the volunteers! Someday, each of these children will be great members of society because when they were little, people cared enough to give them a library, and gifted them the opportunity to learn how to read and enjoy reading.

We have painted their walls so that children will develop the genuine love for reading.

SANIJUBAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Agoo, La Union

Every HOB is a Labor of Love
On our 5th HOB Library, launched last November 3, 2019, we transformed an old classroom of Sanijubar Elementary School in Agoo, La Union, into a fully stocked library that would draw young readers to the site, stimulate their creativity, and ignite in them a passion for reading. This aims to introduce reading as an enjoyable activity that is encouraged by the community. Parents and teachers took part in a dialogue to set the reading and comprehension goals and activities undertaken by the school, including the conduct of reading sessions and management of the library. This HOB, like all of our libraries, was a labor of love, born in the hopes of giving every child the opportunity to discover a love for reading and learning.

The rehabilitation and transformation of our 4th HOB Library in Sagayad Elementary School in San Fernando, La Union from July 20-22, 2019 marks the transformation of the Community into a Reading Community. Beauty Through the Eyes of the Children
As we created our third HOB in Ma
rikit Elementary School in Aborlan, Palawan last May 24 to May 28, 2019, we can’t help but realize that indeed, the children are the future, that is why we must always believe in the beauty of their dreams. After the construction work, repairs, and building refurbishment, LINKS transformed and re-decorated the school’s library into a dreamy, colorful, and exciting learning hub. We will never forget the eyes of the children as they lit up when they saw the beauty of their new library. It is indeed, marikit!

SAN JOSE APUNAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The second HOB project was carried out in San Jose Apunan Elementary School, Lubao, Pampanga on December 1-2, 2018. It was a combined AMKOR-LINKS PROJECT because it was made possible through our collaboration with Amkor Technology Philippines Employees’ Cooperative (ATPECOOP). This particular library and reading project has been special in our hearts as it capitalized on community cooperation and collaboration. In fact, even as years have passed, AMKOR Coop, through LINKS, still took care their flagship HOB as they gave tons of papers for printing modules to San Jose Apunan ES during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 because distance learning was really such a challenge especially when using printed modules for the children. Another MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
